Change on Section 13 of Terms & Conditions

We made a few changes to Section 13 of our Terms & Conditions. This section regards to Certified Translation services provided by our member Cátia Cassiano. Cátia was recently informed that a translator does not need to see the original document to be able to certify its translation. However the translation must have a copy of the original printed in the reserve of the page with the translator stamp and signature.

This has minimal effect on the service provided, but it allows the translator to accept jobs interstate or overseas.

To read the full document please visit our Terms & Conditions.

Cátia Cassiano a NAATI Certified Translator

Last year NAATI started a process of Certification for its practitioners. NAATI aims increase its high standards in the industry. Only those who meet NAATI's strict requirements would be able to transition into the new Certification Program. There's still some practitioners who hold an accreditation but they won't be listed at NAATI's directory and they won't be able to renew their accreditation. The idea is to phase out accredited translators and have only certified translators in the Association.

Our Member Cátia Cassiano, who has been a Professional Translator accredited by NAATI since May 2013 has now successfully transitioned into certification and is now a Certified Translator . Cátia has also updated her professional blog In the eyes of a translator, the blog has been hosted at blogspot for some time and Cátia has now moved it into Wordpress.

If you have any queries please fill free to drop her a line.

Updated Words has a brand new member

Since 2008 Updated Words have been a Team of 2 passionate translators who share their love of languages and writing. It has been a great experience for both members and they certainly love the work and the relationship they have developed with clients and the visitors of their social media pages.

In the 2015 the team considered expanding the Team, and even though they were not actively searching for new members, they were aware of that idea should the opportunity present itself. That happened in February 2016. A translator who was Cátia Cassiano's colleague of the Translation Course at the British Council showed interest in be a part of the Team. After discussion her entry was approved.

So today we are very proud to announce Mrs. Margarida Sousa,  the brand new member of the Updated Words family. Margarida is a professional translator who has more than 20 years experience in this industry. In her words she "prefers the technical areas" and that's why she specialises in administration and legal translation.

Most of the times she translates from Portuguese to English but she is also qualified to translate from English to Portuguese. She loves a good challenge and being involved in innovative projects.

Please feel free to visit our website and see her profile page, so you can find more about her and her services. Feel free to contact her should you have any queries.

Welcome to 2016

Welcome to 2016. After a small break our team is ready to start the new year. We hope 2016 is a very positive and successful year not only for ourselves but to all our clients.

In 2016 we will continue our regular weekly activities online and we will add a few more interesting bits. Both our members have professional blogs where they write a few things about their work. These blogs were never mentioned publicly by the team. However, it was decided that we will now start sharing our blog posts in our Facebook page. This will help customers learn a bit about us and the work we do. So in 2016 expect to see a few posts about translation ...

We are also working on a new glossary and we want to have it published during the current year. This glossary has been scheduled for quite some time, but due to time restraints it was put on hold and the team is now ready to start working on it again.

We are ready to start the year and we count on your participation. If you have any questions you would like to ask, please fell free to post them on our social media pages or send us a private email.

Happy New Year.

July brings some changes to Updated Words

July will bring some changes to Updated Words' Online Activities. Our aim is to bring you more interesting activities and give you the chance to learn a bit more about this amazing world of languages.

So from the 1st of July you will see a few changes to our activities online. One of these changes will be to the Language Happy Hour. Unfortunately, this activity wasn't as popular as we intended it to be, so we decided it was time for it to go. But our regular Weekly posts will continue with the exact same model that has been used until today.

What makes it more interesting is that now you will see the posts at different times. In our current model, the posts were controled from Australia which meant that readers in the Southern Hemisphere would read them on Tuesdays and Thursdays first thing in the morning while in Europe would be still Monday or Wednesday evening. In the new model you will have a month where these posts are controlled by Inês Lopes Bridges in the United Kingdom and the next controled by Cátia Cassiano in Australia. The rules will be the same, you have a Monthly Theme, a term or expression released on Tuesdays and the answers given on Thursdays.

So stay tuned because Tuesday we will reveal our theme for July and our member Inês Lopes Bridges will also reveal our very first word of the month.

We hope you like the new changes and we are waiting for your participation.

Updated Words new look and exciting activities

The new Financial Year has just started and with it came some changes to Updated Words. Once again we've changed our look a bit to make it even more appealing to our clients. A brand new website will bring you a much better experience and a more professional look.

Please feel free to browse and leave us a message with your queries or suggestions. We will be very please to assist you.

But there's more to this brand new look. We've added a new Glossary. You can now browse through our Idiomatic Expressions Glossary. There you will find all those Idioms that have been discussed in our online activities this year.

Our Online Activities also suffered some changes. We received suggestions from some participating readers and we took them on board. It is very important for us to know what our clients and readers think of our work and what do they believe could be done to improve it.

Today we start a new model for our Activities Online. Instead of just focusing in a theme and discuss it, we decided to create some change and discuss several themes. On the first working day of each month we will release the Theme of the Month, that will be the subject for all posts of that month. We will continue to post a word or expression on every Tuesday (Sydney time) for our readers to comment and then on Thursday's (Sydney time) we will publish the correct answer. However, instead of doing it the way it has been done for the last 6 months or so, it will be done according to the Theme of that particular month. Once again, we advise our readers that they can always suggest a theme for the incoming months. Our Monthly Polls will also continue with more interesting subjects for discussion. The Monthly Polls however, are not affected by the Theme of the Month and will be chosen randomly. Readers can also suggest polls.

But there is a brand new activity for all our Forum and Facebook members/readers. Language Happy Hour was an activity suggested by one of our frequent readers. In this activity people can interact directly with us in Real Time. Once a month, a Member or Members of the Updated Words Team, will be online answering people's questions. These questions are subject to the Theme of the Month. The activity will be available for a period of one hour and people can participate both on our Facebook Page or Forum. The date and time of the Language Happy Hour will be announced at the beginning of every month on our Facebook Page and Forum.

We hope you like the changes we've made for you and we will be waiting for more excellent suggestions, like the ones we have already received. The Updated Words Team would like to thank all participants in our online activities, it wouldn't be possible without you.

Thank you very much.
