A new Updated Words Glossary is now available

Updated Words has launched another interesting Glossary. It is our Anatomy Glossary.

The Glossary is still incomplete, but we decided to publish so it can be useful to the general public. We want our glossaries to be a useful tool both for colleagues and the general public.

This Glossary will be updated regularly once more terms become available. Feel free to consult it on Anatomy Glossary .

New Financial Year brings a few changes to Updated Words

The new Financial Year has just started bringing a few exciting changes to Updated Words. We did a small restructure and decided to do a few changes in our activities online and release 2 brand new Glossaries.

Over the years we've been promoting activities in our Facebook and Forum pages, bringing terms and asking readers to find their translation. We won't be changing that model but we will be doing it in a slightly different way. From this week we will start introducing the word on Tuesdays as usual, but we will start doing it in a multiple-choice exercise, where you will have to choose from 3 possible options.

We will also be introducing the Grammar Months. From now on, we will have 4 months in a year dedicated to Grammar issues both in English and Portuguese. These months will be spread out through the year and each one of them will have 2 weeks dedicated to English Grammar and the other 2 dedicated to Portuguese Grammar. The activities will be similar to the other activities. A multiple-choice exercise will be released on Tuesdays to be completed with the correct answers on Thursdays.

We have also updated our existing Glossaries and released 2 brand new Glossaries. These Glossaries are not complete, but they are meant to be updated  as more terms become available. Every weekly term released in our online activities will be released in a Glossary and published in our website once it reaches more than 20 terms. Our new glossaries are the Aviation and Tourism Glossary  and the Legal Vocabulary Glossary. More glossaries will be released throughout the year and the existing ones will be updated every three months.

Updated Words new look and exciting activities

The new Financial Year has just started and with it came some changes to Updated Words. Once again we've changed our look a bit to make it even more appealing to our clients. A brand new website will bring you a much better experience and a more professional look.

Please feel free to browse and leave us a message with your queries or suggestions. We will be very please to assist you.

But there's more to this brand new look. We've added a new Glossary. You can now browse through our Idiomatic Expressions Glossary. There you will find all those Idioms that have been discussed in our online activities this year.

Our Online Activities also suffered some changes. We received suggestions from some participating readers and we took them on board. It is very important for us to know what our clients and readers think of our work and what do they believe could be done to improve it.

Today we start a new model for our Activities Online. Instead of just focusing in a theme and discuss it, we decided to create some change and discuss several themes. On the first working day of each month we will release the Theme of the Month, that will be the subject for all posts of that month. We will continue to post a word or expression on every Tuesday (Sydney time) for our readers to comment and then on Thursday's (Sydney time) we will publish the correct answer. However, instead of doing it the way it has been done for the last 6 months or so, it will be done according to the Theme of that particular month. Once again, we advise our readers that they can always suggest a theme for the incoming months. Our Monthly Polls will also continue with more interesting subjects for discussion. The Monthly Polls however, are not affected by the Theme of the Month and will be chosen randomly. Readers can also suggest polls.

But there is a brand new activity for all our Forum and Facebook members/readers. Language Happy Hour was an activity suggested by one of our frequent readers. In this activity people can interact directly with us in Real Time. Once a month, a Member or Members of the Updated Words Team, will be online answering people's questions. These questions are subject to the Theme of the Month. The activity will be available for a period of one hour and people can participate both on our Facebook Page or Forum. The date and time of the Language Happy Hour will be announced at the beginning of every month on our Facebook Page and Forum.

We hope you like the changes we've made for you and we will be waiting for more excellent suggestions, like the ones we have already received. The Updated Words Team would like to thank all participants in our online activities, it wouldn't be possible without you.

Thank you very much.

Updated Words in 2012

A new year has started and our Team has a lot of great news for you.

As a team of translators, it is very important to us keeping an appealing and professional outlook so our clients can be assured of the quality of our services. But we live in the technology era, and creating an active profile will certainly be a plus not only with clients but with the general public.

As linguists, we're always trying to get people to talk about languages and to have a correct knowledge of languages. Unfortunaly, sometimes the Internet is not the best place to find that and the overuse of Internet codes and abreviations ended up leading to a poor knowledge and usage of languages. We want people to think about languages as a way of comunicating and learning things. It is amazing what the correct use of a language can do in our life.

So in 2012 the Updated Words Team created a few activities to promote good language skills and give people good information about those simple things we so often forget about.
We are planing the publication of some of our Glossaries. These glossaries were gathered by our team in our everyday work. They will be updated regularly as soon as more words are included. For our Facebook Page and Forum we will create several activities that will allow us to interact with people. There you will find polls, answers to people's questions, suggestions for translation of certain words or idiomatic expressions and many more.

To participate in this activities all you have to do is register in our Forum and be a member of our Facebook Page. Let's talk about linguitics, it can be really fun!
