Inês Lopes Bridges launches her new book on Amazon

Inês Lopes Bridges is an excellent writer. She was born in Setúbal, Portugal,  which is also hometown of Manuel Barbosa du Bocage, one of the greatest Portuguese writers who is also one of her favourite. Inês grew up in Setúbal and in her late teens she moved to London, where she finished her Degree in Creative Writing and a Masters  in Publishing.

Inês has always had a great passion for writing. She started at a very young age. When she was only 13, she started writing poetry in English. She says she wanted to keep her work secret, so she decided to write it in a foreign language.

In 2008 Inês wrote her second romance in Portuguese. The book is called “Isabel”.  It’s the story of a French teacher divided between his duties as a father and a love story from the past.  The whole story will develop around this man, that love and a book that is the way he lives his dreams. This way the writer almost created two books in one playing with the story she was telling and the story told in that other book.

Unfortunately, publishing a book is not easy, and get to a publisher it is very hard. So Inês decided to publish it on a blog. Everyday she would publish a bit of the book. Her aim was not only to show her work to the public but also to receive some feedback from her readers and know their opinion about her work.  Everyday there was new comments and her book was causing all sorts of emotions in her readers.

But now Inês has some more news for us. She has taken a step further and is now launching a digital version of “Isabel” on Amazon Kindle Shop”. Her aim is to raise enough money to invest on publishing the physical version of this great book.

The book is already available on Amazon. All you have to do is click here and you can buy it. The book is not expensive at all (9.99USD) and it can be paid with your credit card.  For those who don’t have a Kindle or any other similar device, you don’t have to worry. You can still buy and read “Isabel”, you just have to download Amazon’s free application Kindle for PC.

70% of the proceedings will be for Inês and she will use it in the publishing of her book.

For her English readers she is also preparing a long narrative poem called “Until the end of the world” that she will make available in Amazon Kindle Shop very soon.

TRADULÍNGUAS International Legal Translation Conference

Tradulínguas International Legal Translation Conference will be held in Lisbon on the 7th and 8th of October 2011. An event organised by Tradulínguas and other legal translation experts that features 2 full days of great information and workshops about legal translation.

Tradulínguas launches a new Taxation Workshop for Translators

Linguists fight to defend Portuguese Language

In July we wrote an article about the new Orthographic Agreement for Portuguese Language. In that article we informed our valuable costumers and colleagues that a New Agreement for the Portuguese Language had been signed, however we didn't agree with the terms of this agreement and for that reason, and as professionals we would refuse to comply with it.

We also gave our reasons for this disagreement and explained why we believe the Governments of all Portuguese Speaking Countries should simply accept their language differences and discard such document.

This week we came in contact with a great article written by João Roque Dias, a translator who is also against this document and decided to enlighten people about various myths that the Governments have created about it. In his great article we can read all the lies the Portuguese people have been told to justify such loss of identity. We won't obviously be repeating his words as that would be plagiarism but Iwe will leave you the link so you can read it. We can only add to our colleague's words that it is a shame to use a language, something we consider a part of a country's identity and culture, as a political tool.

There's also a Petition against the Orthographic Agreement. The Updated Words Team has already signed this document and we are now providing the link for all of our colleagues and clients who may also want to join us in this fight for our language and culture.

• Petition "Em defesa da Língua Portuguesa"/ In defense of the Portuguese Language

As we mentioned in our previous article we believe the language is a very important part of a country's identity and culture. Each country has its own development and therefore its language evolves in a very particular way. We believe the Governments of English speaking countries understood that and that's why we can have Australian English, American English and South African English without any prejudice to the British English. And even if we mention geographic areas (just as the Portuguese Governments did), we will find that Australia, the United States and South Africa are geographically bigger than England and even so each country respects each other's culture and language. As our dear colleague mentioned in his article the UN uses Oxford orthography in its documents and no one anywhere in the world creates a problem with it. Why should there be a problem for the Portuguese Language? We truly don't accept it and we are totally against this cultural assassination that this document represents for the Portuguese Language.

New Chemistry Translation Course by TRADULÍNGUAS

Tradulínguas announced its new Chemistry Translation Course. A very interesting course for all colleagues who deal with chemistry translation everyday or those who have passion for chemistry.

Its a 30 hour e-leaning course, where participants will learn the basics about chemical terminology as well as basic knowledge about chemical bounds, organic and inorganic compounds and a brief introduction to two of the most important industries in this area: pharmaceutical industry and oil industry.

New Legal Translation Course by TRADULÍNGUAS

Tradulínguas has launched its brand new Legal Translation Course. For all the colleagues involved with Legal Translation this could be the right option for "upgrade".

The course will start on the 31st January 2011 and it will finish on the 2nd March. It's a 50 hour e-learning course, where participants will have the opportunity of getting in contact with several practical aspects of Legal Translation at their own pace.  This course will be supported by video conference where the participants will have the opportunity to interact with other participants and lecturers.
